We’re excited to announce the publication of the first TRANSCENDENT protocol paper in BMJ Open!
Each year, over 400,000 Canadians experience a concussion however, much of the research focuses on athletes, military members, or people seen in major trauma centres. That leaves big gaps when it comes to understanding how concussion affects the broader population.
The TRANSCENDENT Concussion Research Program, led by Dr. Roger Zemek, is working to change that.
This new paper outlines our five-year study that will follow 5,500 participants of all ages and backgrounds. A subset will complete additional in our sub-studies, including brain scans, vision assessments, and biomarker collection, to help us better understand concussion from every angle.
What sets this study apart? It’s inclusive of all ages and injury types, reflects knowledge user and clinician priorities, and integrates clinical data, patient-reported outcomes, and objective measures. The study also builds one of the largest concussion datasets in the world through the Ontario Brain Institute’s Brain-CODE platform.
We’re proud to be leading a study that centers real-world concussion experiences and promotes collaboration across the brain health community.
